Item Embargo Assessment of Record Keeping Practices in Nursing Schools: A Case of Uganda Nursing School-Bwindi.(Kabale University, 2020) Gambamazima, RuthThe Purpose was to Assess the record keeping Practices in nursing schools. The study was guided with four objectives; identifying different types of records at Uganda Nursing School-Bwindi, identifying the importance of the records Keeping Practices at Uganda Nursing School-Bwindi, to examine the challenges faced with keeping records at Uganda Nursing School-Bwindi and to propose possible solutions for effective records Keeping Practices at Uganda Nursing School-Bwindi. The study doted descriptive research design because it provided a framework for interpreting the variables of the study. The target population was 15 and a simple random sampling technique was used to select the respondents in the organization where the study was conducted. The results indicated that; the department has never appraised or disposed its records ever since its establishment, records had already filled up the strong room which is no longer accessible and some of the records are staffed in boxes and some piled on the floors. It was recommended that the department adopts a record Keeping policy, train its staff on simple records keeping standards, adopts a records preservation plan, revive the records office and to appraise and dispose records systematically. The research concluded that Uganda Nursing School-Bwindi has worked seriously on records keeping problems though the safety and security of records is a challenge to personnel in-charge of records. Also, at Uganda Nursing School-Bwindi it was revealed that there were numerous instances where important documents and notes were not kept in secure conditions.Item Embargo Assessment of Records Management Practices at Uganda College of Commerce Kabale.(Kabale University, 2024) Tukamushaba, OliviaThe research examined the state of records management practices at Uganda College of Commerce Kabale. Its objectives were to assess current practices, identify associated challenges, and propose solutions. Using a descriptive research design, data was gathered through interviews and observations. Findings revealed various aspects of records management practices, including creation, storage, access control, retention, monitoring, and disposal procedures. Challenges identified encompassed record inaccessibility, system insecurity, technical complexities, information proliferation, and the dilemma of determining what to retain or discard. Proposed solutions included ensuring retention and durability, providing secure storage, offering continuous training programs, acknowledging the diversity of paper and electronic records, maintaining authenticity, proper disposal, and utilizing computer-based management practices. Recommendations emphasized the necessity of training registry staff on effective records management and digital systems usage, highlighting the importance of accessible records and ongoing support. Additionally, implementing access controls in digital systems to safeguard sensitive information while facilitating authorized access, and regularly updating controls to align with evolving roles and responsibilities were advised.Item Restricted Assessment of Records Management Storage Practices in Medical Centers: Case Study of Rugarama Hospital.(Kabale University, 2024) Akello, DeborahThis study focused on evaluating the records management storage practices at Rugarama Hospital. The main objective was to assess the records management storage practices in the hospital's records department. Specifically, the study aimed to: examine the current records storage practices at Rugarama Hospital, identify the challenges faced in records storage, and suggest potential solutions for improving records storage management. The research utilized a case study design with both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Data was collected from 44 participants, including department heads, records section staff, and medical staff at Rugarama Hospital, using self-administered questionnaires and interview guides. Quantitative data were analyzed using Excel to generate frequencies and percentages, while qualitative data were analyzed to identify themes, and results were presented in tables for interpretation. The findings revealed that the primary records storage method at Rugarama Hospital was physical paper-based storage, as indicated by 79.5% of respondents, with 46% stating that records were organized and stored in cabinets. The study also identified limited space as the main challenge in records storage, as noted by 36.4% of respondents. To address this, 34.1% of respondents suggested that reducing clutter to create more space would be an effective solution. In conclusion, Rugarama Hospital primarily used paper-based records storage, faced challenges with limited space, and could benefit from decluttering. The study recommended that the hospital administration should consider redesigning storage areas to optimize space usage. This could involve adopting compact shelving systems, digitizing older records to free up physical space, and decluttering to enhance storage efficiency.Item Embargo Assessment of the Preservation and Conservation of Teachers’ Records at Rubanda District Local Government(Kabale University, 2020) Gumoshabe, Alexander R.The study assessed the preservation and conservation of teachers’ records at Rubanda Local Government in central registry. The study was guided by the following objectives: to identify the activities carried out in the preservation and conservation of teachers’ records at Rubanda district Local Government, to examine the causes of deterioration of teachers’ records at Rubanda district. Local Government, to assess the challenges faced in the preservation and conservation of teachers’ records at Rubanda district Local Government and to propose strategies to improve the preservation and conservation of teachers’ records at Rubanda district Local Government. Literature review focused on the specific objectives and was got through documentary analysis and internet sources. The population of Rubanda District Local Government office consisted of over 30 staff in different departments such as the registry department, finance department, community development, veterinary and animal husbandry, health department, administration and users (clients) such as teachers. Descriptive research design was used and a sample size of 17 respondents was used and these included 4 records staff (one records manager, two records assistants and one office messenger) and 10 teachers and 3 administrators. Data collection methods used included questionnaire method and interviewing method. Data was then analyzed using words and statements, and later presented in form of thesis and tables. The findings of the study also revealed that, Rubanda district Local Government has no means for the preservation and neither conservation of records. Records are stored in boxes, some placed on shelves, cabinets and on tables. The findings of the study revealed that, biological threats, mishandling of records, dust, humidity, fungi, pests and moulds, pollution, plucking of pages of documents and poor retrieval and filling practices are leading causes of deterioration of teachers records.
