Item Restricted Construction of A Force Pump as a Teaching Aid.(Kabale University, 2021) Muhwezi, AbelThe project was about the construction of a force pump as a teaching aid using locally available materials. The project used materials that included a syringe that acted as a cylinder with a piston having a handle; a bottle of soda that acted as a reservoir, two valves of a bicycle tire, panga, a container with water used as the water source, pipes, and a wooden stand. During the construction of a force pump, A syringe with a piston was assembled with two valves of a bicycle tire. The syringe that acted as a cylinder with a piston and the reservoir was then mounted onto the wooden stand that enabled the force pump to operate properly under the principle of up-stroke and down-stroke. The inlet valve B and the outlet valve A were fixed in a way that during the upstroke, valve B opened and valve A closed, then during the downstroke valve B closed and valve A opened. During the upstroke, the piston drew water through an inlet valve B into the cylinder while on the down stroke, the water was discharged through an outlet valve A into the reservoir thus water was obtained through the spout.Item Restricted Design and Construction of a Bluetooth Incorporated Moving ¬Coil Loud Speaker.(Kabale University, 2021) Mirembe, KenethThis project report is about the design and construction of a moving-coil loudspeaker from locally available materials. It involved gathering all the necessary materials which include; a light thin wire, a permanent magnet, a hard carpet, manila paper, an amplifier with a Bluetooth module built, a battery, and a plastic plate. These materials were cut using a razor blade and a pair of scissors and molded into suitable parts to form a loudspeaker. The loudspeaker was successfully constructed which produced a sound of high volume. This helped the user to explain some of the theoretical concepts of electromagnetism more virtually.Item Restricted Design and Construction of a Free Energy Generator.(Kabale University, 2022) Tumwebaze, EdwineThe main tittle of this project is design and construction a free energy generator where the main objective is to determine whether the concept of a free energy generator can be used to generate electricity without using other sources of energy like hydroelectric power, fossil fuel among others but using the natural properties of magnets (attraction and repulsion of the magnetic poles) to create a perpetual motion which can be used to perform a useful function. The permanent magnets have invisible and continuous power where it can attract the iron or other specific kind of metal with the energy flow which allows the permanent magnet to defy the gravity for years. Generally, a hydraulic lift is used for lifting and holding heavy-weight components. Material selection plays a key role in designing a machine and also influences several factors such as durability, reliability, strength, and resistance which finally leads to an increase in the life of a hydraulic lift. The design is performed by considering a hydraulic lift as a portable, compact, and suitable for medium type of load application. Drafting and drawing a hydraulic lift system is done using solid works with suitable modeling and imported to any workbench for meshing and analysis. Hence, the analysis of the lift, total deformation load, and equivalent stress was done and all responsible parameters were analyzed to check the compatibility of the design.Item Restricted Design and Construction of a Led Two-Dice System.(Kabale University, 2022) Rukundo, IvanMicrocontrollers are used in games like the MCU Chess, Snake, Led Tetris, Spaceship simulators, Pin Ball Machines, Poke Ball, Ludo, and Monopoly, among other games. In the MCU chess game, the microcontroller plays chess with the user through the serial port. The microcontroller initializes the chess board in memory and lets the user make the first move and the game proceeds on. The purpose of this study was to design and construct an LED two-dice system using a pie 18f452 microcontroller.Item Open Access Design and Construction of a Plasma Sterilizing Machine Using Locally Available Materials.(Kabale University, 2022) Kule, Joseph MuhanaThe spread of pathogenic microbes from one individual to another has become a serious problem for many health workers and civilians even when some sources are taken for granted in many developing countries like Uganda. The main focus of the study was to construct and design a plasma sterilizing machine and elucidate its efficiency by carrying out a microbial sterilization case study on the saloon shaving machines used in the southern region of Kabale Municipality. Some saloons were sampled purposively and the blades of the shaving machines were inoculated to make a sample solution of about 80cm3 from which I cm3 sample was placed on microscopic slides and observed under medium and high power to find out the microbial population in the samples made. All the sample solutions were found to contain a bigger number of microbes. Locally available materials were used to make a sterilizing machine which was found to be 99A% deficient at eradicating the observed microbes. ll can therefore, be suggested that via the use of unsterilized shaving machines in Kabale municipality, people around might have been contacting the pathogenic microbes and this could be one of the causes and sources of diseases transferable from one individual to another however applying a few concepts of physics suitable remedies can be put on ground to minimize the risks in an environmentally friendly way.Item Restricted Design and Construction of a Ripple Tank.(Kabale University, 2023) Twakire, IgnatiusMany schools face the problem of inadequate teaching aids. The main purpose of this project is to construct a Ripple tank to act as a Teaching Aid for learning at the Secondary level of education.Item Open Access Design and Construction of a Simple Air Blower.(Kabale University, 2020) Niwandinda, JohnsonAir blower is a fun which can move air under pressure. It is a device which increases the velocity of air when it passes through equipped impellers. They include cleaning air blowers, ventilation air blowers among others. Air blowers have long been used for a variety of domestic and industrial purposes. An air blower works by sucking in air from one side using fans and blowing it out in the other direction. This helps to direct air through various size nozzles and get desired air blowing results needed for specific purposes. We here use de motor with a circular frame and fan based arrangement to suck air from one side and push it out the other end with force. We develop circular fan blades to assemble a blower fan that allows for one side airflow with ease. We now use the blade based fan mechanism to drive the system and achieve one side airflow. The frame is constructed in such a way so as to minimize air leakage and achieve suction from one end as well as redirect this air flow through a nozzle on the other end. The following were the materials during the construction; soft iron material, connecting wire, hummer, dry cells, nails, pyan, wooden board, and infinitely long copper wire. The infinitely long copper wire was wound on the soft iron material to form an electromagnet. The pyan was fixed into the wooden board to form the armature. The bell which acts as the gong was fixed on the wooden board and the nail which acts as the hummer was fixed in the pyan. The battery holder of four battery cells was made using wood. The positive terminal is connected to one end of the electromagnet and the negative terminal to the switch which is connected to the armature, and the other side of the electromagnet is connected to the contact screw hence making the circuit complete. When the switch is closed, current flows through the circuit which makes the electro-magnet become magnetized hence attracting the armature thus the hammer hits the gong. The use of renewable energy is an essential ingredient of socio-economic development and economic growth. Renewable energy sources such as wind energy, are abundant and can help in reducing the dependency on fossil fuels. Increased concern for the environment nowadays led to research for more environment-friendly sources of energy and with these considerations, wind energy can be considered a viable option in this regard. Different configurations of wind turbines such as horizontal axis wind turbines and vertical axis wind turbines are mainly used for energy extraction. The horizontal axis is mainly used in large-scale applications and thus its implementation is generally a concern due to the huge installment setup and initial cost; whereas vertical axis wind turbines offer promising solutions for smaller rural areas or medium-sized residential spaces. Energy generation from wind turbines will surely be affected by the geometry of the blade it is using and its orientation in the turbine. For effective use of turbine, both parameters should be optimally set and determined. This review work focuses on various stages for the design and development of optimized vertical axis wind turbines. To improve their performance, at least one of the machines has to be designed to work as a teaching aid such as a pulley system such that students can use them to experiment as they learn how they work. This project, therefore, is about the design and construction of a Block and Tackle Pulley System using locally available materials. The overall implementation of this work involves knowledge of the physics of mechanics, particularly simple machines. As a case study, I used a fixed pulley and a moveable pulley in the construction of an improvised Block and Tackle system. I hypothesize that using a fixed pulley and a movable pulley increases mechanical advantage.
