The purpose of this study was to assess poetry and diction in contemporary Uganda; a case study of "Building the Nation".Item Embargo Assessing The Causes of Poor Performance in Geography At Advanced Level in Secondary Schools in Ntungamo District: A Case Study of Rubaare Sub-County.(Kabale University, 2014) Nyesiga, JoramThis study aimed to find out the causes of poor performance in geography at an advanced level in secondary schools in Rubaare sub-county Ntungamo District. The study objectives were:- To asses the school-related factors that cause poor performance in geography at the advanced level in secondary schools. To establish the environmental-related factors that cause poor performance in geography at the advanced level in secondary schools. To identify strategies to minimize poor performance at the advanced level in secondary schools. The study was conducted at three randomly selected schools in Rubaare sub-county Ntungamo District. A total sample of 69 respondents was selected to represent other schools in the sub-county. The targeted population was students, teachers, and head teachers. The researcher used questionnaires and interviews to collect accurate data. The data collected were analyzed using qualitative techniques and presented in tables, frequencies, and percentages. The study revealed that there was school related that, there were school-related, environmental factors that cause poor performance in geography at an advanced level in secondary schools and strategies to minimize poor performance at the advanced level. Conclusions and recommendations were made per the study findings in chapter four.Item Embargo Assessing the Effect of Large Class Size and Pupils Academic Performance in Public Primary School in Rukungiri Municipality.(Kabale University, 2023) Kashumbusha, RobertThe study was about examining the effect of large class sizes and pupils' academic Performance in public primary Schools in Rukungiri Municipality. The study was guided by three objectives which were: to find out the relationship between large class size and pupils' academic performance, to find out the effect of class size on pupils' academic performance in selected schools in Rukungiri Municipality, to identify the pupil's enrollment and number of teachers in public schools. A targeted population of 66 respondents was considered and these included Headteachers, teachers, and pupils. Both simple random and purposive sampling techniques were used in identifying the study sample size. The methods that were used in data collection included questionnaires, observation, and interviews. Data collected was edited, coded, entered into the computer, and analyzed with Excel, a Microsoft statistical package, the results were presented in tables. Based on results from the study, 100% of the respondents were aware of the relationship between large class size and pupils' academic performance, and these- included smaller classes encourage participation or interaction as students may receive more support from classmates, teachers in small classes are more I likely to give individual attention to students, effectively control and manage the classroom and build better relationships with students, class size may also influence teachers' interpersonal styles, small classes are more visible and more likely to engage in learning and social behaviors during class, class size has the potential to affect how students interact with each other. The study findings revealed the effect of class size on pupils' academic performance in selected schools in Rukungiri Municipality. These included quality teaching and assessment suffering in large, lack of funding was perceived to impinge well beyond the classroom to the workplace and ultimately to the state of the economy, lack of appropriate value associated with teaching, school administration creating an environment that affects academic standards either positively or negatively. Objective three, it was found out as indicated by the respondents from public primary schools in Rukungiri municipality that the pupil enrollment and number of teachers in public schools and the introduction of Universal Primary Education in Uganda, the skill that teachers exhibit in teaching influences the pupil enrollment, a teachers lack of experience may translate into low enrollment of students, repetition, and dropout, teachers' experience is important to students' learningItem Embargo Assessing The Effect of Single Parenting on Learners Academic Performance in Selected Secondary Schools of Kabale Municipality.(Kabale University, 2022) Ahumuza, Miriamst assessed the effect of single parenting on learners' academic performance in see secondary schools of Kabale Municipality. The objectives of the study were: to find out the causes of single parenting in Kabale Municipality, to assess the challenges faced by single parents on academic performance, and to examine the effect of single academic performance of students. The study used a descriptive research design e size of 40 respondents was used for the study. The data collection methods used interviews and questionnaires. The study results on the causes of single parenting in e Municipality, the highest number of the respondents mentioned domestic violence. a number of the respondents mentioned unintended pregnancy. Other respondents mentioned death, divorce, and separation, the study results on the challenges fed by students of single parents on academic performance, the highest number of respondents mentioned parental understanding of children's feelings, the lowest number of respondents mentioned the ability to negotiate social situations and produce successful social mention and parents' knowledge of their children other respondents mentioned children's satisfaction with the way they are living their lives, risk of failing to get adequate educational provisions which hinder students' academic performance, and ability to manage their learning and succeed academically and the study results on effects of single parenting on students' academic performance, the highest number of respondents mentioned ess concentration in class, the lowest number of respondents mentioned late coming to school. other respondents mentioned a lack of adequate scholastic materials, isolation from friends which hinders the student's discussion, absenteeism from school, and stressful life which affects students' academic performance. The study recommends that the government should intervene by putting strict laws on domestic violence so that this can be reduced and help to avoid single parenting among the children, more education should be given to all. on dangers of divorce on their children to reduce divorce among partners which muses single parent, parents should not hesitate giving parental guidance to their children.. The study aimed to assess the impact of iron smelting and smithing on the social and economic development of indigenous people.Item Embargo Assessing The Influence of Upland Rice on Household Income in Nyamirama Sub-County Kanungu District.(Kabale University, 2022) Byamukama, ChrispusThe study assessed the influence of upland rice on household income in Nyamirama Sub County Kanungu District. It concentrated on identifying the factors favoring upland rice production on household incomes in Nyamirama Sub-county Kanungu District, to identify the contributions of upland rice production on household incomes in Nyamirama Sub-county Kanungu District and identify the challenges affecting upland rice production in Nyamirama Sub-county Kanungu District. The study was carried out in Nyamirama sub-county, about 35km from Kanungu District Headquarters. Kanungu District is found in South Western Uganda and it is boarded by Rubanda District in the west, Kasese in the East, Democratic Republic of Congo in the South, and Rukungiri in the North. The researcher employed a descriptive cross-sectional survey research design that helped in gathering information where little knowledge is known. A cross-sectional study design across the respondents in Nyamirama Sub-County Kanungu District was used to survey the study population. The study considered a total of a hundred (100) respondents that is local community members, farmers, farm extension workers, and rice traders of Nyamirama sub-county Kanungu District. The primary data was gathered from the respondents that were selected for the study farmers, local community members, farm extension workers, and rice traders). The researcher used questionnaires and interview guides to gather data from respondents. The data units were sorted according to the study objectives to produce coherent meaning. The data was then organized, entered into the computer, and analyzed using Microsoft Excel a computer-based statistical application program, where both inferential and descriptive analysis was used. The study results were later presented in the form of tables, for easy interpretation. Conclusion and recommendations were further drawn in the same arrangement with the study objectives that accrued from the study findings. The researcher concluded that the researcher considered the age of respondents with the view of acquiring data from respondents to their lifetime experiences and understanding an indication that respondents between 20-29 years of age were still energetic and responsible for getting Involved in upland rice farming. It was also concluded that the factors favoring quality production of upland rice on household incomes indicated that there is a need to use quality inputs like fertilizers and seeds, and household sensitization on upland rice best farming practices. The study recommended that there is a need to increase credit financial facilities to farmers by providing agricultural loans at very low-interest rates with the help of village saving banks. The Government should always ensure very good quality agricultural inputs are allowed in the market to boost the entire agricultural sector not only upland rice farming.
