Item Embargo Absenteeism and Academic Performance of Pupils in Selected Primary in Buyanja Sub-County Rukungiri District.(Kabale University, 2023) Twesigye, AbelThe study aimed to examine the effects of absenteeism and academic performance on pupils in selected primary schools in the Buyanja sub-county, Rukungiri district. The study was guided by specific objectives, which included identifying factors contributing to pupil absenteeism, assessing the effects of absenteeism on pupil academic performance, and suggesting potential strategies to reduce absenteeism among pupils in selected primary schools in Buyanja Sub County, Rukungiri District. The study used a mixed research design. In this study, data was collected using questionnaires and key informant interviews. Using simple random and purposive sampling techniques, a total of 100 respondents were selected to participate in the study. A majority (25%) of respondents, the highest number, mentioned that illness was the major cause of pupils' absenteeism in primary schools in the Buyanja sub-county, Rukungiri district. This implies that the majority of the respondents mentioned that absenteeism affects the academic performance of pupils in primary schools in the Buyanja sub-county, Rukungiri district. It was concluded that children more frequently absent in early kindergarten obtained lower working memory and cognitive flexibility scores, as represented by 31 %. The study findings on the possible strategies to reduce absenteeism among pupils in primary schools in the Buyanja subcounty, Rukungiri district indicated that 24% of the respondents mentioned that there should be effective monitoring as a strategy to reduce absenteeism among pupils. The study recommends that policymakers provide incentives or rewards, such as recognition certificates and prizes or gift cards donated by the community, to pupils with good attendance.Item Restricted Achers' Motivation and Students' Academic Performance in C.R.E. The study was guided by three objectives which were: to find out the relationship between large class size and pupils' academic performance, to find out the effect of class size on pupils' academic performance in selected schools in Rukungiri Municipality, to identify the pupil's enrollment and number of teachers in public schools. A targeted population of 66 respondents was considered and these included Headteachers, teachers, and pupils. Both simple random and purposive sampling techniques were used in identifying the study sample size. The methods that were used in data collection included questionnaires, observation, and interviews. Data collected was edited, coded, entered into the computer, and analyzed with Excel, a Microsoft statistical package, the results were presented in tables. Based on results from the study, 100% of the respondents were aware of the relationship between large class size and pupils' academic performance, and these- included smaller classes encourage participation or interaction as students may receive more support from classmates, teachers in small classes are more I likely to give individual attention to students, effectively control and manage the classroom and build better relationships with students, class size may also influence teachers' interpersonal styles, small classes are more visible and more likely to engage in learning and social behaviors during class, class size has the potential to affect how students interact with each other. The study findings revealed the effect of class size on pupils' academic performance in selected schools in Rukungiri Municipality. These included quality teaching and assessment suffering in large, lack of funding was perceived to impinge well beyond the classroom to the workplace and ultimately to the state of the economy, lack of appropriate value associated with teaching, school administration creating an environment that affects academic standards either positively or negatively. Objective three, it was found out as indicated by the respondents from public primary schools in Rukungiri municipality that the pupil enrollment and number of teachers in public schools and the introduction of Universal Primary Education in Uganda, the skill that teachers exhibit in teaching influences the pupil enrollment, a teachers lack of experience may translate into low enrollment of students, repetition, and dropout, teachers' experience is important to students' learningItem Embargo Assessing The Effect of Single Parenting on Learners Academic Performance in Selected Secondary Schools of Kabale Municipality.(Kabale University, 2022) Ahumuza, Miriamst assessed the effect of single parenting on learners' academic performance in see secondary schools of Kabale Municipality. The objectives of the study were: to find out the causes of single parenting in Kabale Municipality, to assess the challenges faced by single parents on academic performance, and to examine the effect of single academic performance of students. The study used a descriptive research design e size of 40 respondents was used for the study. The data collection methods used interviews and questionnaires. The study results on the causes of single parenting in e Municipality, the highest number of the respondents mentioned domestic violence. a number of the respondents mentioned unintended pregnancy. Other respondents mentioned death, divorce, and separation, the study results on the challenges fed by students of single parents on academic performance, the highest number of respondents mentioned parental understanding of children's feelings, the lowest number of respondents mentioned the ability to negotiate social situations and produce successful social mention and parents' knowledge of their children other respondents mentioned children's satisfaction with the way they are living their lives, risk of failing to get adequate educational provisions which hinder students' academic performance, and ability to manage their learning and succeed academically and the study results on effects of single parenting on students' academic performance, the highest number of respondents mentioned ess concentration in class, the lowest number of respondents mentioned late coming to school. other respondents mentioned a lack of adequate scholastic materials, isolation from friends which hinders the student's discussion, absenteeism from school, and stressful life which affects students' academic performance. The study recommends that the government should intervene by putting strict laws on domestic violence so that this can be reduced and help to avoid single parenting among the children, more education should be given to all. on dangers of divorce on their children to reduce divorce among partners which muses single parent, parents should not hesitate giving parental guidance to their children.. Parental guidance is necessary to enable the children to be brought up well to enable the child to achieve his or her academic carrier and there should be government support to single parents in upbringing the children in form of providing financial support to them to have well brought up children in the community and educated well.Item Restricted Assessment of Teachers’ Turnover and its Impact on Academic Performance in Government Aided Secondary Schools of Kayonza Sub-County Kanungu District.(Kabale University, 2024) Biryomumeisho, GideonThis study examined the factors influencing teacher turnover and its impact on academic performance in government-aided secondary schools in Kayonza Sub-county, Kanungu District. The research was guided by three specific objectives: (1) To investigate the role of teacher turnover on academic performance; (2) To identify the factors affecting teacher turnover; and (3) To suggest possible solutions to the factors affecting teacher turnover. A descriptive survey design incorporating both qualitative and quantitative data was employed. The study population comprised 75 teachers from three selected secondary schools, with a sample size of 63 respondents. Data collection methods included questionnaires and interviews. The qualitative data were analyzed thematically, while the quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS software, with results presented in tables, figures, and charts. The key findings of the study revealed that high teacher turnover significantly impacts academic performance in government-aided secondary schools in the Kayonza Sub-county. Respondents indicated that the frequent changes in teaching staff disrupt the continuity of learning, weaken teacher-student relationships, and ultimately hinder students’ academic progress. Several factors were identified as contributing to teacher turnover. Firstly, low salary was cited by a significant majority (71.4%) of respondents as a primary reason for leaving. Teachers expressed dissatisfaction with their compensation, which led many to seek better-paying opportunities elsewhere. Secondly, poor working conditions were highlighted by 60.3% of respondents, who pointed to the lack of adequate teaching materials and poor infrastructure as key factors contributing to a stressful work environment. Thirdly, the lack of career advancement opportunities was identified as a significant demotivator, with 79.4% of respondents feeling that limited opportunities for professional growth and promotion pushed them to leave. Additionally, the heavy workload, including large class sizes and additional administrative duties, was noted by 66.7% of respondents as a contributing factor to their decision to leave. Lastly, inadequate support from the administration was mentioned by 55.6% of respondents, who noted that the lack of support eroded their morale and led to higher turnover rates. The study recommends several strategies to address teacher turnover, including increasing teacher salaries and benefits and improving working conditions.Item Restricted Child Abuse and Pupils’ Academic Performance in Primary Schools of Kayonza Sub-County Kanungu District.(Kabale University, 2024) Turyahabwa, AlexThe study examined the impact of child abuse on the academic performance of pupils in Kayonza Sub-county, Kanungu District. It was guided by three main objectives: identifying the different forms of child abuse in the area, analyzing the causes of child abuse, and assessing its effects on the academic performance of primary school children. The researcher employed a descriptive-analytical approach and a cross-sectional survey design, utilizing questionnaires and interview guides to collect accurate information on respondents' facts, opinions, and perceptions regarding child abuse and its academic implications. The study targeted headteachers, teachers, and pupils, allowing data collection on multiple objectives simultaneously. Data collection tools included interviews and questionnaires. Quantitative data from the questionnaires was sorted, coded, edited, and categorized according to the study objectives, with results summarized into frequency tables and percentages for easier interpretation. Qualitative data was analyzed to capture respondents' stories and experiences related to the research questions. The findings highlighted various forms of child abuse prevalent in Kayonza Sub-county, including physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Physical abuse involves inflicting harm through actions like hitting, kicking, or burning, while emotional abuse encompasses behaviors damaging to a child’s self-esteem or emotional health, such as constant criticism or threats. The study recommended implementing comprehensive community awareness campaigns to address the identified forms of child abuse. These initiatives should include workshops, seminars, and educational programs targeting parents, teachers, and community members, aimed at raising awareness about physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, and exploitation.Item Embargo Early Marriages and Pupil's Academic Performance in Butanda Sub- County Kabale District.(Kabale University, 2021) Katushabe, SharloteEarly marriage is a symbol of poor orientation. The objectives are threefold: to investigate the prevalence and types of child abuse experienced by pupils, to identify the causes of child abuse, and to determine its effects on academic performance. The research employed a mixed-methods approach, gathering data through questionnaires, interviews, and academic performance records from teachers, pupils, and local community leaders. The findings revealed a significant prevalence of various forms of child abuse physical, emotional, and neglect among the pupils. The study identified several causes of child abuse, including socioeconomic factors, family dynamics, and cultural practices. The analysis shows a strong correlation between child abuse and poor academic performance, with abused pupils demonstrating lower grades, decreased school attendance, and higher dropout rates compared to their non-abused peers. These findings underscore the urgent need for comprehensive child protection policies, increased awareness, educator training, and the establishment of support systems to improve the academic outcomes and overall well-being of affected pupils.Item Restricted Effect of Child Neglect on Academic Performance of Pupils in Primary Schools of Buyanja Sub-County Rukungiri District.(Kabale University, 2024) Ainembabazi, SaphraThe study examined the impact of child neglect on the academic performance of primary school pupils in Buyanja Sub-County, Rukungiri District. It was guided by three objectives: to investigate the causes of child neglect affecting pupils' academic performance, to identify the effects of child neglect on academic performance, and to propose solutions to combat child neglect and improve pupils' academic performance. A descriptive research design was employed, focusing on events after they occurred. Data collection methods included questionnaires, interviews, and an interview guide. The study used both qualitative and quantitative approaches, with simple random and purposive sampling applied to a sample size of 202 respondents. The findings identified several causes of child neglect, including single parenthood, lack of parental education, parental stress and overwhelm, lack of social support, inadequate welfare systems, and parental substance abuse. The effects of child neglect on pupils' academic performance included developmental issues, insecure or disorganized attachment with caregivers, physical health problems, and learning difficulties. To address these issues, the study suggested solutions such as implementing parenting education programs, improving access to mental health services, providing community support programs, strengthening early childhood education, and enhancing child welfare systems. The study concluded by emphasizing the significant causes of child neglect, such as single parenthood, inadequate parental education, and lack of social support, and called for targeted interventions to improve the academic performance of affected pupils.Item Restricted Effect of Co-Curricular Activities on Academic Performance of Pupils in Buyanja Sub-County Rukungiri District.(Kabale University, 2024) Kyobutungi, BrendahThe study aimed to examine the impact of co-curricular activities on academic performance among pupils in Buyanja Sub-County, Rukungiri District, with specific objectives to identify the challenges hindering their effective implementation, determine their effect on pupils' academic performance, and assess the perceived benefits. A cross-sectional design utilizing a mixed methods approach was employed to gather both quantitative and qualitative data from 75 respondents, including teachers and headteachers. The findings revealed that inadequate funding (73.33%) and insufficient infrastructure (66.67%) are the most significant challenges hindering the implementation of co-curricular activities. Additionally, 60% of respondents identified a lack of trained personnel as a critical issue, while 26.67% noted a lack of interest from pupils as a concern. Despite these challenges, 66.67% of teachers reported that co-curricular activities positively impact academic performance by enhancing time management skills, reducing stress, and fostering greater engagement in studies, while 13.33% perceived a negative impact, and 20% saw no significant effect. Furthermore, these activities offer numerous benefits, with 80% of respondents highlighting enhanced social skills, 73.33% noting improved academic performance, 66.67% recognizing better physical health, and 60% identifying increased self-esteem. The study concludes that while co-curricular activities significantly contribute to the academic and overall development of pupils, addressing the identified challenges is crucial for maximizing their impact. Recommendations include increased funding, training for teachers, and better infrastructure to support co-curricular programs in primary schools within Buyanja Sub-County. Additionally, further research should be conducted to investigate the impact of having trained personnel on the quality and effectiveness of co-curricular activities, as well as to explore how adequate funding influences the sustainability and outcomes of these activities.Item Restricted Effect of Co-Curricular Activities on Students’ Academic Performance in Selected Secondary Schools in Kabale Municipality.(Kabale University, 2024) Muhumuza, AstonThe development of a child’s body and mind demands proper nurturing and its physical and intellectual qualities are a few of the major determinants of his/her personality. Therefore, modern approaches to education emphasize on all-round development of the child. The process of education is not something static or a one-time measure rather, it is a continuous and lifelong endeavor that can be divided into two parts; curricular activities and co-curricular activities. Co-curricular activities, as the name implies, are those, not directly related to the prescribed curriculum and include; sports, athletics, scouting, cubing, various hobbies, excursions literary societies, dramatics, debates, etc. to bring social and physical adjustments in the child. The study concluded that in wholesome the overall effect of co-curricular activities on the student’s academic performance and personality development is positive and it complements the academic activities in the attainment of education’s main goal of bringing change in student behavior.Item Embargo The Effect of Culture on Girl Students Academic Performance in Secondary School of Kabale Municipality Kabale District.(Kabale University, 2021) Akasansibwa, Linit C.The major purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of culture on girl student's academic performance in secondary school of Kabale Municipality Ka bale district. This study had the following specific objectives: to investigate the perception of teachers, students, parents and religious leaders on the issues of early marriage to girls, to assess the perceptions of the teachers, students, parents and religious leaders on cultural values of smart girls, to find the general perception of community s expectations of girls.A case study design was adopted. A sum of 80 individuals was used in this study from which 16 were individual teachers, 40 individual students, I6 individual parents, 4 religious leaders, and 4 elders were taken as sample size. The study also found negative effects of the names for smart girls where they even tried to hide their talents so that they may be seen as normal. Names are like Kihember,Batare were demeaning and discouraged girls from trying as hard as boys in their academics. His life is characterized by a lot of deliberate movements like running, walking, jumping, catching, stretching, curling, balancing, pushing, pulling kicking, etc. These activities are natural to man’s life and evidently make his life flow. Studies of these physical activities in man have shown they are cardinal to his physical health intellectual development, talent building, social relations, positive use of leisure time, and longevity of life. They are also therapeutical to some illnesses and diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, stress, stroke, kyphosis, and lordosis among others, all of which would reduce national medical bills. Farley Thomas (1976). It’s for these reasons that civilized societies have identified these games and sports in the form of exercises and sports and programmed them in their education curriculum, health clubs, and organized competitions. This study was set to examine the effect of games and sports on the academic performance of pupils in primary schools of Kigarama Sub-county, Sheema District. Games and sports were the independent variable whereas the academic performance of pupils was the independent variable. The study was guided by the following objectives; (i) To assess the level of participation of pupils in games and sports in Kigarama Sub-county. (ii) To establish the factors that affect participation in games and sports activities in the Kigarama sub-county. (iii) To ascertain the effects of games and sports on pupils’ academic performance in Kigarama Sub-county. The subjects of the examination included the pupils, teachers, and headteachers. The tools for data collection included a questionnaire which was served to the teachers and headteachers whereas the interview guides were served to the pupils. This study involved a sample population of 5 primary schools randomly selected but including all categories of schools i.e. public, private, mixed ones, day and boarding schools. There were 75 pupils sampled, 40 teachers and 5 headteachers from the sample schools who were served with interview guides and questionnaires respectively. The data collected was converted to percentages and presented in graphs and tables.Item Embargo Effect of Teacher-Pupil Ratio on Academic Performance of Pupils in Selected Primary Schools in Kabale Municipality.(Kabale University, 2024) Turyahabwe, FrankThe study was about the effect of teacher-pupils ratio on Pupils' academic performance in primary schools in Kabale Municipality. The study was guided by three objectives which were: to find out the teacher; pupil ratio in primary schools in Kabale municipality, to find out the factors affecting the academic performance of pupils in primary schools in Kabale Municipality, to establish the effect of teacher-pupil ratio on the academic performance of pupils in primary schools in Kabale municipality. A targeted population of 103 respondents was considered for the study. These included the pupils, teachers, and head teachers. Both simple random and purposive sampling techniques were used in identifying the study sample size. The methods that were used in data collection included questionnaires, observation, and interviews. Data collected was edited, coded, entered into the computer, and analyzed with Excel, a Microsoft statistical package, the results were presented in tables. The study showed the factors affecting the academic performance of pupils in primary schools in Kabale Municipality and these included performance Pressure accounting 18(17.4%), family Background by 19(18.4%), learning Infrastructure by 25(24.2%), difficulty in Understanding accounted 14(13.5), teacher-Student Ratio by 22(21.3%). The study findings on how the teacher-pupil ratio influences academic performance in primary included student Engagement accounted 18(17.8%), classroom management by 15 (14.5%), resource allocation by 17(16.5%), and timely feedback by 11(10.6%). The study further found that the effect of teacher-pupil ratio on the academic performance of pupils in primary schools as classes of 20 pupils or less accounted for 18(17.4%), reduced repetition and dropouts Small class sizes narrowed the achievement gap (17.5%), quality of education is much better when pupil-teacher ratio is low by 12(11.6%). The study further concluded that the teacher-pupil ratio is low and affects the academic performance of pupils in primary schools in Kabale municipality.. The study recommends that further studies should be carried out on the other factors affecting the academic performance of pupils.Item Embargo The Effects of Active Teaching and Learning Methods on The Pupils' Academic Performance in Four Selected Primary Schools in Bugamba Sub-County in Rwampara District.(Kabale University, 2022) Ampurire, MotionThe study examined effects of active teaching and learning methods on the pupils' academic performance in four selected primary schools of Bugamba sub county Rwampara district following the study objective which included to find out factors that influence active teaching and learning methods on the pupils' academic performance in primary schools of Bugamba sub county Rwampara district, to find out whether teachers apply or use active teaching and learning methods in primary schools of Bugamba sub county Rwampara district and to establish a relationship between active teaching learning methods and pupils' academic performance in primary schools of Bugamba sub county Rwampara district. There was critical review of the issues that have explored and studied both theoretically and empirically in the existing literature on active teaching as an independent variable and pupils' academic performance as the dependent variable and the methods of data collection were put into action. The research used both qualitative and quantitaive methods of data collection and analysis. The research used a sample size of 80 respondents using sample random sampling techniques in collecting and analyzing data and was used to provide equal chances to the sample size. Purposive sampling was also used to collect data from respondents that participated in the study. Findings of the study were obtained from the field, interpreting the results and analyzed data based on the specific objectives of the study and male respondents dominated in the study with 63% and majority of them were single having attained primary level of education with 40% of the respondents. Chapter five portrayed the summary of findings, recommendations were made and there was a need to invite more teachers and orient them to use active teaching methods in primary schools and show them that active teaching should be used in all classes of primary schools, the school administration needs to have frequent meeting with the subject teachers and find out the solutions to the problems faced by them with the view of solving them while using active teaching and the school administration also needs to give the subject teachers first priority by getting good trained and committed teachers and also show them the best teaching approaches and their importance of the subject where active teaching method can be used more effectively.Item Embargo Effects of Instructional Materials on the Academic Performance of Learners in Selected Primary Schools in Kabale Municipality.(2024) Turyakira, JosephatThe study examined the effects of instructional materials on the academic performance of learners in selected primary schools in Kabale Municipality. The study was carried out in three randomly selected primary schools in Kabale Municipality, the study objectives were; to explore the views of teachers and learners on the extent to which instructional facilities affect student performance, to examine the challenges that learners in primary schools face in accessing instructional materials, to assess the strategies that teachers use to minimize the challenges of attaining and using quality instructional materials. The researcher used descriptive survey designs in collecting the data. A descriptive survey design was used in collecting the data to describe schools and respondents in the study schools. A total sample of 100 respondents was selected to participate in the study. The researcher used both questionnaires and interview guides in collecting the necessary data about the topic. The data collected was analyzed by using both qualitative and quantitative techniques and presented in tables, frequencies, and percentages. In the findings, the challenges were discussed in terms of their potential impact on student performance and academic achievement. The researcher concluded that efforts should be made to improve infrastructure in primary schools, including providing reliable electricity, internet connectivity, and appropriate storage facilities for instructional materials. The researcher recommended that policymakers and education authorities should prioritize allocating sufficient funds to primary schools to ensure adequate access to instructional materials. This includes budgets for purchasing textbooks, technology, and other resources essential for effective teaching and learning.Item Restricted Effects of Remedial Lessons on Academic Performance of Pupils in Upper Classes in Kyanamira Sub-County Kabale District.(Kabale University, 2024) Nuwaha, WattsonThe research was set to find out the effect of remedial lessons on the academic performance of pupils in upper primary classes in Kyanamira Sub County Kabale District. The study was guided by the following objectives; To investigate the effect of remedial lessons on pupils' performance in primary schools and to examine challenges facing remedial lessons in primary schools in the Kyanamira sub-county. The study adopted an embedded research design because the data was both qualitative and quantitative in nature and also was categorized into frequencies and percentages. Data was collected from teachers, and head teachers, it was a sample total of 132 respondents. The findings of the study revealed that there is a positive effect of remedial lessons on pupils' academic performance in primary schools. The researcher made the following recommendations;- Based on the findings, the study recommends the following; To enhance the effectiveness of remedial lessons, the government and other stakeholders should allocate more resources specifically for remedial education. Schools should prioritize creating conducive learning environments for remedial lessons. Continuous professional development should be provided for teachers involved in remedial education. The Ministry of Education should develop and implement a standardized framework for remedial lessons across all schools. Schools should engage parents more actively in their children's remedial education. To prevent burnout and ensure quality remedial education, it is crucial to balance teachers' workloads. Schools should work to reduce the stigma associated with attending remedial lessons. School administrations should take a more active role in supporting remedial education by providing necessary resources, recognizing and rewarding teachers' efforts, and ensuring that remedial lessons are an integral part of the school‘s academic plan. This support is crucial for the sustainability and success of remedial programs.Item Embargo Effects of Teaching Methods on Academic Performance of Pupils in Mathematics In Primary Schools of Bufundi Sub-County Rubanda District.(Kabale University, 2023) Byarugaba, JosephThe study assessed the effects of teaching methods on pupils' academic performance in mathematics in primary schools of the Bufundi sub-county, Rubanda district. The study was guided by three objectives namely: To examine the different methods of teaching mathematics effectively in primary schools of Bufundi sub-county, assess the levels of performance in mathematics in primary schools of Bufundi sub-county and establish the relationship between teaching methods and academic performance in mathematics in primary schools of Bufundi sub-county. The study used a cross-sectional descriptive survey design with both quantitative and qualitative approaches to data collection and analysis. The study adopted a case study research design whereby the researcher used only 4 (four) primary schools to collect data from members of a population to determine the status of that population for one or more variables. A sample size of 100 was used. Questionnaires and interviews were used during data collection. Data was analyzed using the statistical package for social scientists (SPSS) version 20.0 later presented in tables. The study findings indicated that 54% of the respondents identify lecture methods as one way of teaching mathematics effectively. They revealed that In a strictly lecture teaching approach, a teacher talks most of the time, uses audio-visual materials to illustrate mathematical concepts, work out mathematical problems and chalkboard, and finally summarizes the main points of a lesson on the chalkboard while pupils listen, take notes and have limited chances of asking questions. This study also revealed, 60% of the respondents revealed that an open-ended question that gets them writing/talking is one way of assessing pupil's academic performance in primary schools. To help students grasp ideas in class, ask open-ended questions that require students to write/talking. They can reveal more than you would've thought to ask directly. This was in line with the practices of Triarisanti & Pumawarman, (2019) who revealed that learning results are often referred to as skills or abilities. The study findings on whether any challenges hindered the implementation of staff training programs geared at improving teachers' job performance included limited funds, teachers' attitude towards training, resistance to change by teachers, and lack of time by teachers due to work schedules and the affect teachers' participation in training and their performance. The study recommended that teaching and learning resources should be provided adequately. Teachers should use the resources properly.Item Embargo Examining Family Influence on the Academic Performance of Pupils in Selected Primary Schools in Hamurwa Sub-County, Rubanda District.(Kabale University, 2021) Kiconco, KateThe study was about examining family influence on the academic performance of pupils in selected primary schools in Hamurwa sub-county Rubanda district. It was guided by specific objectives which included. establishing causes of declining academic performance of pupils in primary schools in Hamurwa Subcounty, finding out how the home influences academic performance in primary schools of Hamurwa subcounty and devising remedial measures to improve pupils' academic performance in primary schools in selected primary schools of Hamurwa subcounty. Cross sectional research design was used where both qualitative and quantitative research designs were employed. The study used a population of 2025 respondents from five government aided primary schools of Isingiro primary school, Kakore primary school, Bukombe primary school, Bugiri primary School and Igomanda primary school, that included parents, pupils, teachers and head teachers. A sample of 125 respondents were delivered using both purposive and simple random sampling. Data was collected from these respondents using interview questionnaire and guides. The response rate was 64% where only 80 questionnaires were retrieved. The study findings found revealed that majority 56% of the respondents were males compared to females. Most other respondents stayed with mothers and both parents. Implying that parental support was very vital in improving pupils learning outcomes. Study findings finally recommended that the Ministry of education and Sports should provide both formal and informal education to parents to make them aware of education needs of their children. The government should also provide favorable environment that will create employment pupils after school. Teachers should also provide pupils with moral support in times of difficulties so that they can be able to cope with their challenges in school. Teachers should also provide pupils from low socio-economic background with words of encouragement. Extended family system should be encouraged so that those children who cannot get enough support from their nuclear family can be supported by the other family members. The parents should provide financial support for their pupils in school for buying learning materials. Parents should also try to provide their Pupils with pocket money and other learning materials in order to motivate them in their academic work.
