Item Restricted Role of Media in Promoting Civil Education and Awareness of Government Programs: A Case Study of Buyanja Sub-County Rukungiri District.(Kabale University, 2024) Ahumuza, CharityThe study examined the role of media in promoting civil education and awareness of government programs with reference to the Buyanja sub-county, Rukungiri District. It was guided by the following Objectives to assess the impact of media in promoting civil education in Buyanja Sub-County, Rukungiri District, to evaluate the effectiveness of government programs awareness through media channels in Buyanja Sub-County and to recommend strategies for improving the role of media in promoting civil education and awareness of government programs in Buyanja Sub-County, Rukungiri District. Both qualitative and quantitative approaches were used because they complemented each other. The study population included Local Residents of Buyanja Sub-county, Local Media Representatives and Government Officials, and Program Managers. A total population of 120 respondents was considered. The sample size was 92 and it was obtained using Krejcie and Morgan. The aim was to be able to generalize the results of the data from the sample to the entire population. The data collection methods that were used include; questionnaire, interview, and documentary review methods. Data was entered into the computer and analyzed by developing themes (headings) or subthemes that were derived from the study objectives. Both quantitative and qualitative techniques were used during data analysis. The findings who participants in the study revealed that dissemination of Information is one of the primary ways in which the media promotes civil education in Buyanja Sub-County, Rukungiri District and Uganda by disseminating accurate and relevant information to the public. The findings from the study revealed that effective communication through media channels influences behavior change among the population. For instance, public service announcements aired on radio or television can educate citizens about the importance of certain health practices like immunization or family planning. Training and Capacity Building for Journalists by investing in training programs for journalists to improve their understanding of complex government policies and programs. By enhancing their skills in investigative journalism and data analysis, journalists can provide more in-depth coverage of government activities, leading to better public understanding. Training programs should be organized for journalists covering civic education and government programs to ensure accurate and comprehensive reporting. Media organizations should collaborate closely with local authorities to ensure timely and accurate dissemination of information related to government programs.
