dc.description.abstractThe study examined the effect of social assistance grants on the empowerment and standards of living of elderly persons in Kabale Municipality Kabale district. The objectives of the study were; to examine the effect of social assistance grants for empowerment on the health of the elderly in Kabale Municipality, to find out the effect of social assistance grants for empowerment on the consumption of the elderly in Kabale Municipality and to find out the effect of social assistance grants for empowerment on investment of elderly in Kabale Municipality. A cross-sectional research design was employed and data was collected using interviews and questionnaires. The study results on the effect of social assistance grants for empowerment on the health of the elderly in Kabale Municipality, the highest number of respondents mentioned that social assistance grants for empowerment can help to alleviate financial stress which leads to better physical health outcomes for elderly persons while the least number of respondents mentioned that social assistance grants for empowerment help elderly individuals stay healthy since they can be able to purchase vaccines and have good health. The study findings on the effect of social assistance grants for empowerment on the consumption of elderly in Kabale Municipality, the highest number of respondents mentioned that social assistance grants for empowerment can alleviate financial stress and uncertainty for elderly individuals, allowing them to budget more effectively and plan for future consumption needs while the least number of respondents mentioned that social assistance grants for empowerment allows elderly persons to allocate more of their funds towards consumption for better health. The study findings on the effect of social assistance grants for empowerment on investment of elderly in Kabale Municipality, the highest number of respondents mentioned that the program helps to ensure that elderly individuals have some financial support for investment to meet their essential expenses and the least number of respondents mentioned that the program serves as a supplement to other sources of income for elderly individuals to make investment. The study recommended that the government should further implement programs to assist elderly individuals with medication management, including reminders and adherence support to improve the health of elderly people.
