Malaria is a life-threatening disease prevalent in many African countries, particularly Uganda. A mathematical model was developed to examine the dynamics of malaria in Uganda, factoring in drug resistance, treatment methods, and the use of mosquito nets as preventive measures. The model was fitted to data on malaria incidence in Kasese District, Uganda, to estimate key parameters related to the disease dynamics. With these estimated parameters, the basic reproduction number was calculated, future dynamics were simulated, and the parameters most influential on malaria in Uganda were identified. The findings suggest that malaria is likely to remain endemic in Kasese, Uganda, unless more effective control measures target the dominant resistant strain, improve treatment, and increase the widespread use of mosquito nets.
