The study assessed the Influence of kinship on family stability in Kagunga sub-county Rukungiri District following the objectives of the study which were to examine the older peoples’ perspectives on the influence of kinship relations and family stability, to examine the youth’s perspective on the influence of kinship relations on family stability and to examine the effects of kinship relations on family stability. Results of the study revealed that a substantial 60% of respondents acknowledged the impact of changes over time on kinship relations and family stability. This perspective reflects an awareness of how modernization, urbanization, and shifts in societal values have transformed traditional family structures and roles. Older individuals may have observed the erosion of traditional kinship practices, which were once integral to family life. The study concluded that kinship relations play a critical role in maintaining family stability. Both older and younger respondents recognize the importance of these relationships in providing emotional support, sharing resources, and mediating conflicts. Kinship networks contribute significantly to the well-being of family members by offering a support system that helps stabilize the family unit during times of need. There is a notable difference in perspectives between older individuals and the youth regarding kinship relations. Older people emphasize traditional values and the significance of intergenerational relationships, reflecting their experience with more stable, extended family structures. In contrast, the youth highlight the adaptability of kinship relations in the modern context, including the role of technology in maintaining connectivity and the importance of cultural pride. The study recommends that government should encourage the maintenance and strengthening of kinship ties through regular communication, mutual support, and involvement in family activities to ensure continued stability and resilience.
