Abstract
The study investigated the storage and retrieval of records at Kisoro District Local Government, guided by objectives that included identifying the types of records managed in the Central Registry, examining the methods and equipment used for storage and retrieval, identifying the challenges faced in these processes, and suggesting possible solutions. The research adopted a case study design involving 30 respondents from Kisoro District Local Government, utilizing interviews and questionnaires.
The findings revealed a higher representation of male respondents (59%) compared to female respondents (41%), with the majority (50%) having completed a diploma level of education. The primary challenge identified was data insecurity, cited by 36% of respondents. The study concluded that recruiting trained records management personnel is essential, as many current staff members lack proper qualifications and training in records management. This inadequacy contributes to numerous challenges, including poor professionalism, untimely retrieval of requested records, and insufficient data security.
The study recommended allocating more funds to the records section for overall maintenance. To ensure timely and efficient performance, staff need to be provided with all necessary tools and equipment for managing records, thereby facilitating their work and increasing motivation.
