The study explored the effects of local community activities on the forest resources of Echuya Central Forest Reserve in Muko Sub-County, Rubanda District, Uganda. It was guided by four main objectives: to assess the forest resources available in Echuya Central Forest Reserve, to examine the local community activities around the forest, to evaluate the importance of the forest resources, and to establish the relationship between community activities and the sustainability of these resources. The study targeted a population of 400 respondents, utilizing both simple random and purposive sampling techniques to identify participants. Data collection methods included questionnaires, observations, and interviews. The collected data were edited, coded, entered into a computer, and analyzed using Microsoft Excel. Results were presented in tables for clarity. Findings revealed various forest resources in Echuya Central Forest Reserve, such as bamboo, firewood, poles, ropes, honey, and local herbs. Regarding community activities, the study identified practices like crop farming, grazing, brick-making, stone quarrying, and sand mining as prevalent around the forest. The analysis established a positive relationship between local community activities and the sustainability of forest resources, with a beta coefficient of 0.543. This indicates that a 54.3% improvement in forest resource sustainability is attributed to community activities, emphasizing their significant role in maintaining these resources. The study concluded by highlighting the key resources and activities associated with Echuya Central Forest Reserve, demonstrating the critical interplay between community engagement and forest sustainability.
