dc.description.abstract | The study was about exploring the effect of poverty and child prostitution in the Kamuganguzi sub-county, Kabale District. The study was guided by three objectives which were: to find out the role poverty plays in child prostitution in the Kamuganguzi sub-county, to find out the causes of child engagement in prostitution in the Kamuganguzi sub-county, to explore the efforts made to combat Child Prostitution in Kamuganguzi sub-county. A targeted population of 44 respondents was considered for the study. These included sub-county, CDO, staff, and community members. Both simple random and purposive sampling techniques were used in identifying the study sample size. The methods that were used in data collection included questionnaires, observation, and interviews. Data collected was edited, coded, entered into the computer, and analyzed with Excel, a Microsoft statistical package, the results were presented in tables. Based on the results from the study, 100% of the respondents agreed that the role poverty plays in child prostitution in the Kamuganguzi sub-county includes Poverty is the primary driving force behind women becoming prostitutes, limited and extremely scarce opportunities for women Leads to prostitution, populations experiencing extreme poverty leads to prostitution, families suffering from poverty are purposely targeted by traffickers as a means of exploitation resulting to poverty, some parents sell their children. The study findings revealed the are several causes of child engagement in prostitution in the Kamuganguzi sub-county and these include lack of education, single parenting, Peer influence, lack of opportunities, and poverty. From objective three, it was found out as indicated by the respondents from the study area that the majority of the people around the study area were aware of the several efforts made to combat Child Prostitution in the Kamuganguzi sub-county as none of the study respondents was able to disagree with the same statement ..
