dc.description.abstractThe study was to examine the application of ICT in records management at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital in Kabale District. It was guided by specific objectives which were to find out the types of ICTs‟ used in records management, the challenges of using ICT in records management for enhanced service delivery, and the possible strategies that can curb the challenges of applying ICT in records management at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital. The study used a descriptive research design that will be carried out among the hospital stakeholders. The study used a sample of 106 respondents from 145 as the target population. Both interviews and questionnaires were used to collect data from respondents and findings indicate that electronic health records as one of the types of ICT used in records management in that it implementation leads to improved administration processes, streamlined workflows, and better decision-making, some respondents mentioned that changes in software and hardware in that one of the greatest issues facing the longevity of digital collections in developing countries is not only the storage media deterioration, some respondents mentioned that inadequate funding digital projects in that digitization of records requires enormous funding due to frequent hardware and software upgrades, and increasing cost of subscription to electronic databases. Respondents responded on possible strategies that can curb the challenges of applying ICT in records management at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital in that; Paper and microfilm, cloud storage, training of staff on ICT in records management, and records preservation system. The study concludes that information and communication technology in healthcare has helped in finding the possible prevention measures to eradicate and reduce the spread of diseases. Information and communication technology helps in diagnosis which reduces the time and cost. This saves the lives of many individuals by providing treatment in advance. The study recommends that formal training and orientation programs should be organized at the various departments in the hospitals for medical records officers, doctors and nurses on the use and application of information and communication technology in their professional field so that there will be enough staff to make use of the ICT tools which will promote efficient medical records and information management in the hospitals.
