dc.description.abstractThis research examined mobile banking and the financial performance of commercial banks in Uganda a case study of Stanbic Bank Rukungiri branch. This research was guided by three objectives namely; different technologies used to improve financial performance, the effect of mobile banking on service delivery to customers, and the determinants of the Financial Performance of Stanbic Bank Rukungiri branch. A descriptive research design was used and data was collected using interview guides, questionnaires, and documentary analysis. The study results on different technologies used to improve the financial performance of commercial banks, the respondents mentioned the use of the internet as a medium and mobile as the most common technologies used by Stanbic bank, the study went ahead to find the effect of mobile banking on service delivery to customers of commercial banks, the highest number of respondents mentioned that this platform allows customers to carry out transactions such as payment for goods and services, and payment of utility bills and the lowest number of respondents stated that transactions can simultaneously enhance the outreach of financial services and the study continued to find out the determinants of financial performance of commercial banks, the highest number of respondents mentioned capital adequacy, the lowest number of respondents mentioned liquidity management. The study recommended that mobile payment service providers should pay attention to improving the quality of services they provide that is, increasing the bandwidth so as to facilitate speed and advanced hardware installations as mobile payment methods appear to improve economic welfare and the banks should pay special attention to convenience by providing the customers with electronic banking service at points which can easily be accessible. For instance, some ATMs should be installed in supermarkets, learning institutions, and medical centers. The suggested areas for further study were; the effect of agency banking on the financial performance of Microfinance Institutions, electronic banking and effective financial performance in Microfinance Institutions, and mobile banking and economic development of communities in Uganda.
