Innovative Technologies and Provision of Library Services in Bishop Barham Library.
    (Kabale University, 2024) Olila, Jonathan
The study aimed to evaluate the impact of innovative technologies on enhancing library information services at Bishop Barham Library. It employed a case study design with a mixed methods research approach, involving 55 participants, 50 of whom completed questionnaires and 5 who were interviewed. The findings indicated that the primary motivation for adopting innovative technologies in the library was to enhance the quality of service delivery. Various technological tools were in use, such as OPAC, advanced search tools, an online library, and Koha, which received positive feedback from most respondents. Additionally, the study identified several innovative user services offered at the library, including user education, OPAC services, reprography, interlibrary loans, information literacy, library networking, and the institutional repository. The study also highlighted several challenges hindering the adoption and implementation of innovative technologies at Bishop Barham Library. These included inadequate ICT infrastructure, rapid technological changes, a low level of innovativeness among library leaders, insufficient funding, and inadequate user skills to effectively utilize the technologies. To address these challenges, the respondents recommended increasing library funding, acquiring sufficient ICT infrastructure, staying updated with technological advancements, and improving user education and information literacy services.
