Item Restricted Factors for the Presence of Abortion Among Girls in High Institutions of Learning in Kabale Municipality.(Kabale University, 2024) Ainembabazi, VanitahThe study focused on the factors contributing to abortion among girls in higher institutions of learning in Kabale Municipality. It was guided by three objectives: identifying the factors contributing to the prevalence of abortion, assessing the effects of abortion on these girls, and proposing recommendations to address and mitigate the contributing factors. A descriptive research design was employed to gather information retrospectively, utilizing a qualitative approach that included interviews. Data collection methods involved questionnaires and interview guides, with simple random and purposive sampling techniques. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were applied in data analysis. The findings revealed that factors contributing to abortion among girls in higher institutions included educational attainment, stigma and social norms, access to legal and safe abortion services, financial constraints, and the number of sexual partners. Educational level was particularly significant, with 25% of respondents highlighting it as a key factor. The study also identified the effects of abortion on these girls, such as mental health challenges, stress, coping mechanisms, economic stability, support systems, time management, and academic attendance. The research recommended that the government should implement and enforce policies promoting comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education in educational institutions. This should include a mandatory curriculum covering contraception, safe sex practices, and the legal aspects of abortion.
