| dc.description.abstract | Plants are the most available sources of nutrients and phytochemicals, which have played an important role in the development of drugs and treatment of various ailments. Therefore, this study was carried to ascertain the phytochemical classes of the bioactive compounds from the leaves, flowers, stems, and roots of Tithonia diversifolia and their antimicrobial activity. The solvents used in the extraction of the phytochemicals from the plant extracts were 99.5% Methanol and 99.5% Dichloromethane. Results revealed the presence of flavonoids, saponins, tannins, alkaloids, terpenoids, steroids, carbohydrates, glycosides, anthraquinones, proteins, volatile oils, and reducing sugars. The study concluded that the plant extracts contained several bioactive chemicals that are effective for antimicrobial activity. These chemicals confer ethnopharmacological effects on humans and animals. | |
