Diploma Report, Kabale University, Uganda.http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12493/239A Research Submitted to the Faculty of Arts And Social Sciences in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirement for the Award of A Diploma of Records Management of Kabale UniversityThe study was tiled ‘’the role of computers in secondary schools’’. The aim of the study was to examine the role of computers in secondary school libraries by finding out why computer use needs to be thoroughly taught in secondary schools especially for use in the libraries. Finding out the dangers of computer misuse in secondary school libraries and establishing the relationship between computer use in learning and students' performance. The researcher employed a descriptive research design that helped to gather information. A cross sectional study design therefore used to survey the study population. Both qualitative and quantitative data was collected and enabled the researcher to draw valid and dependable conclusions and recommendations. The researcher used observation method in order to perceive and understand the experience of interest to the researcher. It allowed the researcher to see what people actually do rather than what they say they do. It therefore bridged a gap between what people say they do and what actually is done. The interviewing method as a tool of collecting data from the respondents was also used. It involved a person to person verbal communication in which one person or group of persons asked the other questions. The researcher intended to list information or opinions. The researcher used this method because it collected information that cannot be observed or was difficult to put down in writing. The researcher also used the questionnaire method to collect items in which a respondent was expected to react. The researcher used a questionnaire tool because, the population was large and time was limited and it was suitable because the information needed could easily be described in it. The total number of population was 40(forty) people. This included school administrators, library staff and library users from Kigezi High School. The findings revealed that computers played a big role in learning and promoted effective teaching by the teachers. The study further revealed that there is need for further training to the teachers and administrators as some lacked computer knowledge. It was further revealed that the area needs further funding .en-USComputersLibrariesSecondary SchoolsThe Role of Computers in Secondary School Libraries.
