It provides the evidence needed for decision-making. Research in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) is a channel of knowledge creation and dissemination that makes HEIs relevant to society by influencing development policy; creating knowledge needed for teaching and learning; contributing to national, regional, and international development through the sharing of research information and expertise; and improving the ranking of HEIs. In these regards, research should constitute a proportionately large percentage of activities and resources at universities.
