Abstract
This study investigated the intricate dynamics of single motherhood and its impact on the socio-economic welfare of families in Kabale Municipality. With the primary objectives of identifying causative factors, examining socio-economic influences, and exploring coping mechanisms for challenges faced by single mothers, the research employed a mixed-methods approach. A sample size of 300 respondents, including never-married, widowed, and separated mothers, participated in the study. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and focus group discussions, providing both quantitative and qualitative insights. Results highlighted causes such as inadequate reproductive health education, societal stigma around divorce, and economic challenges. The socio-economic impact was characterized by economic strains and limited potential earners in single-parent households. Coping mechanisms encompassed community-based support networks, financial literacy programs, and tailored mental health support services. The study advocated for targeted interventions, including comprehensive reproductive health education, economic empowerment initiatives, and integrated support services, to enhance the well-being of single-mother families in Kabale Municipality. These findings offered valuable insights for policymakers, practitioners, and community stakeholders engaged in addressing the complexities of single motherhood.
