dc.description.abstractThe study was about political interference and social service delivery. It was carried out in Kanaba Sub-County Kisoro District. The study was guided by objectives such as: analyzing the causes of political interference in service delivery, establishing the consequences of political interference to social service delivery, and establishing the intervention strategies in place to reduce the rate of interfering with social service delivery by political leaders. Data was collected using a questionnaire Interview, and during data collection, purposive sampling techniques and simple random sampling were used. The study employed a cross-sectional descriptive design and employed both qualitative and quantitative. The study involved 75 people who acted as respondents. Data was analyzed using a statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) which helped the researcher to come up with frequency tables and pie charts. The study found out that the Demand for power by politicians, the Government's ability to grow the economy, the Need of political distribution, Failure to pay attention to politics on service delivery, Redistribution of social justice, Inequality, and uneven advances in education and training, Demand for democracy using social service delivery protests and Government legitimacy respectively were the major causes of political interferences to service delivery. It was also indicated that high bureaucratic discretion shifts the balance of power away from politicians, political leadership deficiencies, emergency of local governing class without ideological commitment, no explicit formulation of any value, power struggle, ideology in political space and consolidation were the consequences of political interferences to service delivery. The study concluded that political interference in social service delivery could be solved by the intervening strategies in place to reduce the rate of interference with social service delivery by political leaders like Leader's commitment, Good governance, Intuitional arrangement, Distribution of costs and benefits, and Secularism in a multi-religious society. The study finally recommended that; Politicians with experience should better understand how to work with the people while delivering social services and affect the change they desire, politicians' delegation decisions should be the key margin by which politicians improve the productivity of the social service delivery, Citizens should influence the people who votes to delegate to the most productive public organizations by tying politicians' electoral incentives to the effective delivery of social services and there should be monitoring and evaluation unit aim at measuring efficiency and effectiveness of the delivery of social services by the political leaders.
