Abstract

The study aimed at library and information service delivery in secondary schools: a case study of St. Paul’s S.S. in Bukinda sub-county, Kabale district. Chapter one contains background of the study, stamen of the problem, purpose of the study. Objectives of the study, research questions, scope of the study, significance of the study and definition of operational terms. Chapter two reviews the literature that was carried out by different scholars and academicians in relation to the study. The study was guided by four objectives namely; to identify the different kinds of library and information services in Uganda, to find out the importance of library and information delivery in Uganda, the researcher used three data collection instruments to acquire information from respondents namely: questionnaires, interview guides and observation. The collected data was edited, recorded, entered into computer and analyzed with excel, a Microsoft statistical package. The results were presented using tables and graphs. A total sample of eighty (80) respondents were considered for the study of which include five(5) were administrators and seventy five (75) students of St. Paul’s Bukinda sub-county , the researcher used both simple random and purposive sampling in identifying the study sample. The study revealed that there were challenges affecting library and information service delivery and these were: inadequate fund, inadequate reading information materials, inadequate storage space, lack of equipment such as computers, and the nature of professional practice that is inadequate qualified staff members and the researcher recommends that there should be soliciting of funds from the international monetary fund. Provision of enough library space for storage of information materials, provision of equipment such as computers, recruitment of qualified staff members and provision of enough information materials in the library in order to improve the school library. The study recommends that there should be qualified records staff members. Purchase of more information materials should be done, large store should be provided to improve service of the school.
