Item Restricted Design and Construction of Operator-Alcohol Detection Interlock System with Automatic Machine Shutdown and Alarm.(Kabale University, 2024) Akampurira, ChrisbusThe Machine Interlock System is a prototype developed to prevent workers under the influence of alcohol from operating machinery. This prototype has a Grove gas alcohol sensor as the input of the system, a 16×2 Liquid Crystal Display that shows the state of the breath’s alcohol level, a buzzer that produces an alarm when a breath sample is to be taken and when there is alcohol present in their breath, Light Emitting Diode which shows whether it is safe to operate machine or not and lastly the DC Motor which acts as the machine being operated. The system's outputs include a Liquid Crystal Display, Light light-emitting diode, a Direct Current Motor, and a Buzzer. The objective of this project is to design a prototype circuit that prevents machine operators from working under the influence of alcohol reducing the number of fatalities caused by them while working. Currently, it is used in the United States of America, Canada, and some European countries in Vehicles while in Uganda what is being used is alcohol blows which are being administered manually by traffic police officers. The interlock system has been of great help in countries where they have already been implemented. In Uganda at an affordable budget, it can be used and after a certain period of test runs, a decline in the number of accidents and fatalities will be expected.
